Meet the SHKCA Officers

President : Calvin Ruan

This is my pleasure to meet you all. I am the President of SHKCA for this academic year. In the following academic year, I will regard myself not only as a club president but also as a club member who wants to enjoy the Cal spirits. I believed this club will become a place where you will find your own brotherhood, common interests, and fun. Come and join our family. We are hoping to provide you with the warmest place in Berkeley.

Vice President : David Zhang

Hello everyone my name is David Zhang and I am the Co-VP for the club. I am majoring in Political Economy of Industrial society and hope to concentrate on Asia or China as my main region of study. I am still currently a Junior and there are lots to learn. I can't wait to meet everyone and learn more about China. I like sports, food, and games. So come talk to me or find me on Sproul tabling. See you all at our events!

Vice President : Helen Cheung

Hi everyone! This is Helen, one of the VPs for SHKCA in this school year. I am intended business and psychology major and this is my second year at Cal. SHKCA to me is a huge family, so my goal this year is to remember every one of you by name. However, since there are many one of you and just one of me, it may take me some time before I can do that. A way to help me remembering your name is say hi to me when you see me during events or anywhere on campus! Along with all other officers, we have tried our best effort to make this year as interesting and informational as possible. So I want to invite you all to come to our events to support us. I am looking forward to see each and every one of you in events!

Treasurer: Betty Ha

皆さん、こんにちは~私はBettyです!初めまして、どうぞよろしく~~ I am a 2nd-year student at Cal, and also the Treasurer for SHKCA. Please don't be confused by the above greeting, but I am just a little bit too passionate about Japanese culture. The emphasis of our club is Hong Kong and Chinese affairs, but we do try our best to promote multi-cultural communication between students with different ethnic backgrounds. I speak English, Cantonese, Mandarin and some Japanese. I would be very interested in learning if you guys are willing to teach me other languages! Our club events are also good chances for you to meet new people and explore the fascinating culture of Chinese. Welcome to SHKCA! And I hope to see you guys in our upcoming, interesting and exciting events!

Secretary: Carol Kuong

Buon Giorno! Start with a little bit Italian, because I am really struggling about my Italian 1 course this semester. :P Anyway, welcome everyone who’s interested in learning more about SHKCA. As a sophomore with intended architecture major this year, I can see myself crazy about staying at the studio. Not to mention that I am kind of crazy if you really do know me. I am quite as some people describe me, but I definitely say lots of stuff and “low b” at times if you get to know more about me. I am also willing to teach, help, or listen to everything regarding your concern. I know it sounds too normal for every officer, RA, advisor, or just every Cal student says that to you over and over. BUT! We do really want SHKCA to be a place for us all to connect together, and make you really feel like you are belonging to this Cal community!

External Secretary: Kathy Luong

Hi, my name is Kathy, 3rd year in Cal, and it is always a pain to tell people that I still have an undeclared major, but I am working on it, so ask me again next time you see me… haha… (just to make you talk to me when you see me… just kidding ^^ ). I like to play badminton and swimming, and stuffs that most girls like to do such as shopping, hanging out with friends, talking on phone… etc. In a nut shell, I’m just a normal girl, but I’m kind of clumsy and lazy sometimes =P

Historian : Karen Cheung

Hi, my name is Karen Cheung, the historian of SHKCA for Fall 2007. I'm a Junior this year who major in Nutritional Science. This club allows me to explore more on cultures and current issues of China and Hong Kong. I look forward to meet all of you and use my camera to record all the exciting moments of all your faces in our events!

Event Coordinator : Ming Li

Hello everyone, this is Ming. I am the Event Coordinator. Last year I was only an intern, and now I am an officer. What a big leap! I still remember that I joined SHKCA because of it friendly atmosphere, especially the officers, who really cares about the members. As an officer now, I would like to give the same thing to our members. Of course, I will also help my club to hold more interesting activities, so that you could come to learn and have fun. Come join us, we have a great deal to offer!

Event Coordinator : Aaron Liu

Hello everyone! Welcome to SHKCA! I am Aaron. I am currently a second year here at Cal as an intended economics major, and I am originally from Sacramento. I am your events coordinator for this year. So, remember to laugh until you roll on the floor just to show how much you love our events. I hope to see you in our events, and I wish you a successful year here @ Cal! GO BEARS!

Fundraising Committee Chair : Mei Zhou

Hi all! <3 My name is Mei, or you can call me Sharlene if you like ^.^ And I will be your Fundraising Committee Chair for this school year.  I am currently a junior majoring in Nutritional Sciences; yet, this is only my second semester here with SHKCA.  As a member of this big family, I am very glad and lucky to be able to serve all of you and make your Cal student life a better experience.  If you happen to spot me on campus, around Berkeley or anywhere, please don’t be afraid to come up to me and say “hi” ^.^  Hope you all can join us and become part of the family.  Wish you all the best!
