The Society of Hong Kong and Chinese Affairs invites new and returning members to the SHKCA Spring 2007 Welcome Night. Come and meet new friends, Snacks and light refreshments will be served.
We will be showing "Mr. 3 Mintues" on February 7, 2007. The event is free and open to everyone. Please arrive early for seats. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and move begins at 7:15 p.m.
Note: Movie will be in Cantonese with English subtitles.

There will be food, games and prizes. We are open to suggestions on the choices of food and games. Feel free to leave messages on the wall! We are still in the process of planning the event!
The Society of Hong Kong and Chinese Affairs will host a free game night for everyone March 8, Thursday evening at 242 Dwinelle Hall. The SHKCA officer and interns have group games planned for everyone, along with the various board games, including cards and mah jong. Take a brake from all your hard work and come have some fun.
The Society of Hong Kong and Chinese Affairs is honored to have U.C. Berkeley Industry Fellow Mr. Bernt Wahl, from the Center of Entrepreneurship and Technology, U.C. Berkeley to speak on his business experiences in Mainland China. This is an open event and everyone is invited to attend this academic seminar.
Bernt has several passions, including starting fun and innovative companies, teaching entrepreneurship, writing books on chaos theory and fractal geometry, and Internet search technology. In his career he has been involved with several start-ups and he has taught over 1,000 university engineering students how to develop new product ideas. Bernt founded Dynamic Software in 1987 while at UC Santa Cruz. Its first products produced mathematical visualization software. Dynamic Interactive -- a spin-off company – started in 1995 was a pioneer Internet commerce company servicing clients that included Microsoft, Sun and Macromedia.
In environmental areas he has worked with the United Nations on Ecotourism and he help the U.S. National Park Service build its first website. He is also interested in social causes including the work done by The International Justice Mission on social issues, and various other organizations’ work on the global dissemination of information.

Event: "Chinese Calendar Posters from the Early 20th Century"

Dr. David Fraser, Managing Editor of the Asian Survey from UC Berkeley's International and Area Studies Department will speak about his personal collection of old Chinese calendar posters from the early 20th century and the research he has done on them. These posters were very popular during the 1920's and 30's, drawn by various professional artists trained in both western and Chinese art. Such calendars played an important role in shaping the popular urban culture during Republican China..

Todd Carrel is a journalist and reported in Asia for more than a decade as the ABC
News Bureau Chief and correspondent in Beijing and as an Associated Press Reporter in Japan.
He has been a journalist-in-residence at the East-West Center in Hawaii, a Knight International
Press Fellow in Hong Kong, and was a visiting lecturer at the UC's Graduate School of Journalism
last semester at Berkeley.

Peter Yu: Director of Business Strategy and Planning at Oracle, has worked as a Senior Manager of International Product
Planning and Consumer Product Marketing for Gateway and as a Team Leader and Management Consultant for Bain & Co.
Peter's other previous experiences include Bain Capital Austral-Asia, TRW, McGraw-Hill, and IBM. He is a Director for
NAAAP-San Francisco. Mr. Yu holds a BS -Haas School of Business, and an MBA with honors - UCLA Anderson
School of Management.
Kiran Jethwa: Chairman of the Board of Directors for NAAAP-San Francisco, MBA-Santa Clara University.
Eric Young: worked as a Lead Capacity Planner for AMD , Lean Manufacturing Engineer and Quality Supervisor for Eaton
Corporation. MSE and BSE in Industrial & Operations Engineering- University of Michigan, will be attending the UCLA
Anderson School of Management for MBA in fall 2007.
