Becoming a Member

As the new team of SHKCA officers, we are excited to introduce you to a range of new benefits as a member of the SHKCA family:

1. Library

Since 1989, SHKCA has kept a range of fiction and nonfiction books on various topics related to China. We also have an extensive collection of papers pertaining to the Tiananmen incident, which could serve as useful documentary material for research purposes or reference. We continue to add to our library by acquiring books on various topics related to China and the SAR of Hong Kong. Our titles include:

  • Along the Silk Road
  • The River's Rale, by Edward A. Gargan
  • Communications and Information in China, by Xing Fan

See the SHKCA Library page for more details.

2. China and Hong Kong News Monitor

You will receive our weekly briefing on the political, economic and entertainment news of Mainland China and SAR Hong Kong.
Sample Weekly News Monitor.

3. South China Morning Post

You will have access to the SHKCA account on the SMCP.com.

3. Priority at our events

Members receive priority at events with limited space. For example, to maintain an intimate atmosphere, we limit the number of people at dinners with speakers.

4. Charity Donations

SHKCA sponsors the SOAR organization This helps deprived children in rural China to complete secondary school.

For all this, we ask a $3-fee from you for one semester and $5-fee for life time. For a small fee, you can make a big difference. You will be a member of the SHKCA family. Your money will not be wasted.

You don’t need to be ethnically Chinese to be one of us, you don’t need to be an established scholar to be one of us, you don’t need to be proficient in the Chinese language to be one of us, you don’t need to have a wide knowledge of Hong Kong and Chinese affairs to be one of us—all you need is an open mind. Join us at our weekly Thursday meetings.
